How to prepare for a contractor or service visit

A prepared homeowner can make an assessment more efficient without trying to pre-diagnose the job.

Clear access without dismantling

Move ordinary furniture or stored items if safe, but do not remove protective panels or open hazardous equipment.

Put records together

Photos, dates, invoices, warranties, model information and previous repair notes belong in one folder.

Write three questions

What appears to be the cause? What scope is proposed? What remains unknown until work begins?

Ask what the quote excludes

Paint, drywall, disposal, permits, access, testing and restoration are common scope boundaries that can change the final project.
