Stop and escalate
If there is a credible safety hazard or rapidly worsening damage, stop using the affected area or equipment as appropriate and contact the proper emergency, utility, building-management or trade service.
Schedule promptly
Recurring or spreading problems deserve assessment even when there is no immediate emergency.
Monitor deliberately
Monitoring means dated photos or measurements at sensible intervals, not forgetting the problem.
Reclassify when conditions change
A cosmetic crack that begins widening, a small stain that becomes damp, or a noise that becomes loss of function should move to a higher priority.
Safety boundary. General planning information only. Do not open, dismantle or work on hazardous electrical, gas, structural, fire-protection or contaminated-water systems unless you are appropriately qualified and authorized.
